Virginia Officer Arrested Following Malicious Wounding Charge

Virginia Officer Arrested followed the arrest of an Arlington County police officer who now faces a malicious wounding charge linked to an alleged off-duty incident. Department leaders also placed the officer on paid administrative leave while criminal and internal investigations continue.

Authorities identified the officer as Vincent Baglio, 31, of Arlington. The Arlington County Police Department charged him with malicious wounding after investigating allegations involving an incident at a private residence.

Police said the alleged assault occurred on May 24 while Baglio was off duty. Investigators said Baglio and the alleged victim knew each other before the incident.

According to police, the alleged assault happened during a conversation inside the residence. Investigators alleged that Baglio physically assaulted the victim and made statements threatening further harm.

Authorities did not receive the report immediately after the alleged incident. Police said someone reported the matter on June 30, prompting detectives to begin an investigation into the allegations.

After completing their initial investigation, detectives arrested Baglio on the malicious wounding charge. The department announced the arrest after investigators gathered evidence related to the reported incident.

Department officials immediately placed Baglio on paid administrative leave. He will remain on leave while authorities complete both the criminal investigation and the department’s internal administrative review.

Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn addressed the arrest in a public statement. He said the allegations do not reflect the department’s values, standards, or professional expectations.

Penn described the reported conduct as wholly unacceptable. He also said the allegations directly conflict with the oath taken by every law enforcement officer serving the department.

The police chief emphasized that accountability remains a priority throughout the investigation. He said investigators will conduct a criminal investigation alongside a separate internal administrative review.

Penn also stated that the department will determine any further action after investigators complete both reviews. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to holding officers accountable when evidence supports appropriate disciplinary measures.

Department officials have not released additional details about the alleged victim or the injuries connected to the case. They also have not disclosed further information about the reported conversation that preceded the alleged assault.

Authorities have not announced any additional charges related to the investigation. The case remains active while detectives continue reviewing the available evidence.

Baglio joined the Arlington County Police Department in June 2024. He has served with the department for approximately two years before his arrest and placement on administrative leave.

The department has not indicated when either investigation could conclude. Officials also have not announced when Baglio may return to duty or whether further employment action could follow.

Virginia Officer Arrested remains the focus of both criminal and administrative proceedings as investigators continue examining the allegations. Department leaders have stated that they will complete both investigations before making final decisions regarding accountability and any additional administrative action.
