Trump Warns U.S. May Exit Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks

He expressed growing frustration with both nations during a Sunday interview on Meet the Press. The three-year war continues with little progress toward peace.

Trump emphasized there is “tremendous hatred” between the two sides. According to him, deep mistrust remains a major roadblock.

Despite this, he still believes a resolution could be achieved. However, he cautioned that American involvement may not last much longer.

“Maybe it’s not possible to do,” he said. “But we will try until a decision must be made.”

Trump also pointed to the ongoing death toll. Thousands of soldiers reportedly die each week in the conflict. He added, “They’re not Americans, but I want to stop the war.”

The president revealed the U.S. feels closer to one party than the other. Yet, both Ukraine and Russia must cooperate fully to avoid losing U.S. support.

This approach, he said, reflects strategic patience under pressure.

In recent days, Russian missiles struck Ukrainian cities, prompting a sharp response from Trump. On social media, he questioned Putin’s interest in peace.

He wrote, “Missiles into civilian areas? Maybe Putin doesn’t want to stop the war after all.”

Trump also hinted at possible economic retaliation. He floated ideas like secondary sanctions and tighter banking restrictions.

At the same time, tensions flared between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The two leaders clashed over the pace and nature of negotiations.

Nonetheless, they met briefly in Rome during Pope Francis’ funeral. Observers noted a cold but civil exchange.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio lowered expectations for a breakthrough. He urged caution before setting a timeline for withdrawal.

Still, the administration finalized a rare earth minerals deal with Ukraine days later. Trump called it a win for both nations.

Even with obstacles, Trump remains committed to his diplomatic strategy. He repeated that any decision must be grounded in strategic patience under pressure.

He warned that without meaningful progress, the U.S. will reconsider its role. The president concluded that sometimes walking away is the best move.

Although the situation is complex, Trump continues pushing for results. He stated that strategic patience under pressure is the only way forward.
