A deadly shooting took place at a house party in Houston, leaving one person dead and 14 others injured. Authorities say an uninvited guest sparked the violence on May 4, shortly after midnight.
Houston Police responded to a 911 call at 12:50 a.m. about a shooting at a residence on Cherry Hills Road in southeast Houston. According to Assistant Police Chief Patricia Cantu, the situation began when an uninvited guest arrived at the gathering. After being asked to leave, the guest opened fire. Some partygoers then returned fire, escalating the violence.
As law enforcement arrived on the scene, they heard more gunshots and saw people injured around the property. Officers quickly developed a plan to move the victims to a nearby Jack in the Box restaurant parking lot for treatment. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department also assisted in providing care. Despite their efforts, gunfire continued to erupt as the situation unfolded.
Fourteen people sustained injuries, and one person, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene. Several of the victims were critically injured and required surgery, while others were reported to be in stable condition.
“It was chaotic from the start,” said Cantu. “The situation is still very complicated.” Brandon Angel, a guest at the party, described the chaos. “People scattered, seeking cover, and pushing others out of the way,” he recalled. “We tried to escape as quickly as possible.”
The tragic event has left the local community in shock. Investigators continue to piece together what led to the deadly shooting at what should have been a peaceful gathering.
The shooting at the house party remains under investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
