George Glezmann Freed After 800+ Days in Taliban Captivity, Receives Hero’s Welcome

After spending more than 800 days in captivity in Afghanistan, George Glezmann, a hostage held by the Taliban, arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Friday. His arrival was met with a hero’s welcome.

“I feel like I’m born again,” Glezmann said, expressing his gratitude. “I’m at a loss for words.”

He also praised President Trump, stating, “He’s incredible,” and extended his thanks to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and hostage envoy Adam Boehler. Glezmann emphasized that his abduction was due to his American citizenship, describing his release as an overwhelming experience of freedom.

His wife, Aleksandra, joined him shortly after his arrival, and the couple shared a heartfelt embrace, marking their reunion since his capture in Kabul on December 5, 2022.

Ryan Corbett, who was released in January after nearly 900 days in Taliban custody, was there to welcome Glezmann back as well.

News of Glezmann’s release surfaced on Thursday, when it was confirmed that he had left Kabul International Airport on his way to Doha, Qatar.

The successful release was the result of efforts by U.S. hostage envoy Adam Boehler and Qatari officials, who coordinated with the Taliban for Glezmann’s safe return. Boehler personally met Glezmann in Kabul before accompanying him to Maryland.
