Transportation officials recently released an updated draft outlining several improvements for communities along the planned passenger rail corridor. The proposal focuses on expanding accessibility while strengthening connections between major cities throughout Colorado’s Front Range.
One of the most significant recommendations includes building a second passenger rail station in northern Colorado Springs. Officials believe this addition would improve convenience for travelers while supporting future growth across the expanding transportation network.
Furthermore, the updated proposal increases annual local funding allocated to Colorado Springs for transportation connectivity and rail operations. The city would receive approximately $6.6 million each year instead of the previous annual allocation of $3.5 million.
Officials expect the additional funding to strengthen local transit connections and improve passenger access throughout the surrounding communities. Moreover, the investment could support future operational needs as rail service gradually expands across the region.
The passenger rail project recently adopted the name CoCo after thousands of Colorado residents participated in a statewide public voting process. Community involvement helped select the official name while increasing public awareness of the planned transportation network.

According to the updated timeline, passenger service would begin operating in Colorado Springs and Pueblo during 2032. Therefore, residents in southern Colorado could gain direct access to the expanding regional rail network several years after the initial launch.
Another important recommendation relocates the downtown Colorado Springs station platform to the eastern side of existing railroad tracks. This adjustment would improve pedestrian access while creating easier connections between the station and the downtown district.
Officials believe the revised platform location would better serve passengers arriving and departing throughout the day. Additionally, easier downtown access could encourage more travelers to choose passenger rail for business and personal transportation.
The updated proposal also includes a formal commitment regarding future service expansion into southern Colorado communities. Specifically, planners aim to introduce rail operations in Colorado Springs and Pueblo within five years after securing full project funding.
