Texas Senate Race Gets $10 Million Boost

The Texas Senate race is set for a major financial push as a Trump-aligned super PAC plans $10 million in advertising.

MAGA Inc. disclosed the planned spending in a federal campaign finance filing covering its upcoming political activity. The money will support television and digital advertising as Republicans prepare for November’s midterm elections.

The planned advertisements are expected to target Democratic nominee James Talarico, who represents a competitive challenge to Republican nominee Ken Paxton. Meanwhile, Paxton secured his party’s nomination earlier this year after receiving Trump’s endorsement over Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

The contest has attracted national Republican attention because the party wants to protect its Senate majority. Consequently, Republican leaders have encouraged Trump and his political network to direct significant resources toward Texas.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune recently urged Trump’s political operation to invest more heavily in the state. He estimated that political advertising could cost approximately $8 million each week during the campaign.

The push comes as some Republicans debate how aggressively Trump should participate in the midterm elections. However, Trump has recently promised to travel and campaign for Republican candidates across the country.

Trump has specifically expressed support for Paxton and said he intends to visit Texas during the campaign. He has also defended the Republican nominee following criticism surrounding Paxton’s public image and television appearances.

MAGA Inc. reported holding more than $400 million as of July 31, giving the organization substantial resources. Furthermore, Trump has said the group could spend between $400 million and $500 million supporting Republican candidates during the midterm elections.

The financial commitment could therefore become an important part of Republican efforts to maintain control of Congress. At the same time, Democratic candidates are expected to use the campaign to challenge Republican candidates across competitive states.

Paxton’s political history has also become part of the broader discussion surrounding the race. In 2023, the Republican-controlled Texas House impeached him over allegations involving bribery and abuse of public trust.

However, the Texas Senate later acquitted Paxton after an impeachment trial, allowing him to remain in office. Those events continue to influence discussions among Republicans about his prospects in a statewide general election.

Paxton’s primary victory nevertheless demonstrated strong support within the Republican electorate. His campaign now faces the different challenge of attracting enough voters during a general election against Talarico.

For Republicans, the Texas Senate contest carries significance beyond the individual candidates competing for the seat. The outcome could affect the party’s ability to maintain its Senate majority after the midterm elections.

Meanwhile, the planned advertising provides Paxton with additional exposure as campaigns move into a more competitive phase. Television and digital campaigns can help candidates reach large audiences while allowing political organizations to focus messages on specific voter groups.

Trump’s involvement could also become increasingly important as Election Day approaches. His endorsement helped Paxton defeat Cornyn, and his political organization now plans to provide substantial financial support.

The Texas Senate race will therefore receive considerable attention from national Republican leaders and political donors. Both parties have strong reasons to monitor the contest as spending increases and voters begin evaluating their choices.

The coming weeks will show whether the additional Republican spending changes the competitive landscape across Texas. Ultimately, voters will decide whether Paxton can retain the seat for Republicans against Talarico in November.
