He described several controversial actions involving his church while explaining how faith shaped his approach to public policy.
Talarico, a Democratic state representative and Presbyterian seminarian, discussed his religious background during the interview. He said his faith played an important role in motivating his decision to enter politics. According to the resurfaced recording, he described his church’s history of supporting several progressive causes. Those examples included LGBTQ-related advocacy, welcoming an atheist member, and housing an undocumented family.
Talarico said the church had previously housed a mother and son who faced possible deportation.
