Paul Pelosi Crash Results in Misdemeanor Hit-and-Run Charge

Paul Pelosi is facing a misdemeanor charge following the Paul Pelosi Crash in Napa County, California. Authorities said the incident happened Friday afternoon. Investigators said the 86-year-old struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle before continuing to drive until his own vehicle became disabled. Officials also confirmed that alcohol was not a factor.

According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred in Yountville, north of San Francisco. A witness reported seeing a brown convertible strike a parked vehicle. The driver then continued north without stopping.

Deputies later found the damaged convertible partially blocking a nearby roadway. They identified Paul Pelosi as the driver and opened an investigation into the crash.

During the investigation, Pelosi reportedly told deputies he knew he had struck something. However, he said he did not know what he had hit. Authorities said he continued driving until his vehicle became disabled because of the damage.

Investigators administered a preliminary alcohol screening at the scene. The sheriff’s office said the device recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.00. As a result, investigators ruled out driving under the influence.

Authorities concluded that Pelosi was responsible for the collision. However, deputies did not arrest him at the scene. Officials said California commonly handles misdemeanor hit-and-run cases through a referral process instead of an immediate arrest.

Investigators said they will submit the case to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors will review the evidence before deciding whether to file formal charges.

The sheriff’s office also plans to submit a driver re-evaluation referral to the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Officials described the referral as a routine procedure for certain incidents involving elderly drivers.

Following the investigation, a spokesperson for the Pelosi family said Paul Pelosi personally apologized to the owner of the damaged vehicle. The statement added that he accepted responsibility for the property damage.

The family also said former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would not comment further because it considers the matter private.

The Paul Pelosi Crash occurred more than two years after another Napa County traffic case involving Pelosi. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving causing injury after a separate collision.

The court sentenced him to three years of probation and five days in jail. Most of that sentence was satisfied through custody credits and participation in a work program. He also completed a three-month DUI education program. In addition, he installed an ignition interlock device for one year and paid fines and restitution to the injured driver.

Authorities emphasized that Friday’s collision differed from the 2022 case because investigators ruled out alcohol after the preliminary screening.

Pelosi has remained in the public eye since the October 2022 attack at the San Francisco home he shares with Nancy Pelosi. During that incident, an intruder entered the residence while looking for the former House speaker. The attacker then assaulted Paul Pelosi with a hammer.

The attack left Pelosi with a skull fracture and other serious injuries. The attacker later received a 30-year federal prison sentence. A state court later imposed a life sentence on separate charges.

The Paul Pelosi Crash remains under review as prosecutors examine the evidence submitted by investigators. Authorities have not announced any additional charges or court decisions.
