Mike Pence Positions Himself as a Conservative Counterbalance in Trump’s Second Term

Former Vice President Mike Pence is positioning himself as a conservative counterbalance during Donald Trump’s second term, supporting key policies while challenging deviations from traditional Republican values. Through his advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom, Pence spent nearly $1 million opposing Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., citing concerns over his stance on abortion rights.

Despite his fallout with Trump after January 6, Pence insists he will back the administration when aligned but will not hesitate to push back. He noted receiving quiet encouragement from conservatives who share his concerns but remain hesitant to speak out. He emphasized that leadership requires taking a stand, hoping his actions encourage others to do the same.

Pence’s group is also lobbying against Trump’s labor secretary nominee and advocating for increased military spending, deficit reduction, and making Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent. While some Republicans have embraced a more populist direction, Pence argues that most voters remain committed to traditional conservatism.

Actively engaging with Congress and conservative leaders, Pence continues to push for strong alliances and economic policies rooted in past Republican administrations. He remains committed to supporting Trump where possible while ensuring conservative principles are not sidelined
