Historic Powerball Jackpot of $167.3 Million Sold in Kentucky, Breaking State Record

A lucky lottery player in Kentucky has made history with a record-breaking Powerball jackpot. The winning ticket, worth $167.3 million, now holds the title of the largest Powerball prize ever won in the state. The previous record was set 16 years ago.

The winning numbers in the April 26 drawing were 1, 12, 14, 18, 69, and the red Powerball 2. The jackpot was multiplied by three, Powerball announced.

“This is truly another historic moment for the Kentucky Lottery,” a Kentucky Lottery spokesperson told WLKY. The win also marks a significant moment for the lottery’s retailers and players.

The Kentucky Powerball win follows a similar achievement in December 2009, when the state saw a historic $128.6 million jackpot. Interestingly, both the recent and 2009 Powerball wins came from a retailer in Georgetown, Kentucky.

The winner now faces a choice. They can claim the full amount through an annuity or opt for a lump sum of $77.3 million. The prize is the third Powerball jackpot of 2025, with odds of winning the grand prize at 1 in 292.2 million. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9.

As the excitement continues, the Kentucky Lottery urges the winner to sign the back of the ticket immediately. The Lottery also advises that the winner seek financial and legal advice before claiming such a large sum.

This win arrives just after Powerball celebrated its 33rd anniversary on April 22. The game has raised more than $36 billion for U.S. lotteries since it was first launched in 1992.

Following this historic win, the Powerball jackpot will reset to $20 million, with a cash value of $9.2 million, for the next drawing on April 28.
