According to the warrant, investigators focused on records involving chemical handling, storage conditions, and disposal procedures at the site. In addition, agents sought information about cooling systems and temperature controls that regulate hazardous materials. Officials confirmed that the facility, operated by GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems, remained under active review as federal authorities continued evidence collection.
Earlier incidents at the plant forced roughly 50,000 nearby residents to evacuate when temperatures inside a large storage tank began rising unexpectedly. The tank held thousands of gallons of methyl methacrylate, a highly flammable industrial chemical used in plastics and coatings. Moreover, exposure to the substance can cause respiratory irritation, neurological effects, and skin discomfort, according to public health guidance.
Investigators determined that a cooling system failure played a major role in the overheating event. Specifically, a valve malfunction disrupted temperature regulation, allowing internal heat levels to rise beyond safe operating thresholds.
