Childhood School Project gave Jennifer Garner a chance to revisit a treasured memory from her early years. She discovered the class assignment in her mother’s closet in West Virginia. Garner shared the keepsake on social media, giving followers a glimpse into her childhood interests, creativity, and personality.
The assignment asked students to explain what made them special. Each student also wrote a short poem. Garner earned an “A” grade for her work. She paired the assignment with a smiling childhood photograph taken while she was growing up in Charleston, West Virginia.
Garner listed thirteen personal qualities and interests in the assignment. She described herself as an actress, cat owner, clown, ice cream maker, peanut butter eater, piano player, poet, reader, sailor, skater, swimmer, violinist, and writer. The list reflected many hobbies and ambitions she enjoyed as a child.
She also wrote a poem for the classroom exercise. It began, “The things I am, the things I am are all part of me. If they weren’t, then would I be?” She continued by describing those qualities as important parts of her identity. The poem ended by explaining that those traits made her unique.
Garner shared the assignment on both her social media feed and Stories. She explained that her mother had preserved it in the family’s West Virginia home. She also joked that describing herself as a “clown” still matched her personality today.
The childhood photograph was familiar to many longtime followers. Garner first shared the same picture in 2020 while joking about an inexpensive childhood haircut. She humorously said the budget-friendly hairstyle sometimes worked well and sometimes did not.
The recent post continued her tradition of sharing family memories. Earlier this year, she discussed her Los Angeles garden and credited her West Virginia childhood for its inspiration. She also revisited her childhood kitchen with her mother during another recent reflection.
The post followed Garner’s Father’s Day tribute. She honored both her father, William Garner, and the father of her children, Ben Affleck. She also shared several previously unseen photographs of Affleck with their three children, Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13.
In the Father’s Day message, Garner remembered growing up with her sisters, Melissa Lynn Garner and Susannah Kay Garner. She recalled sharing fresh baked cookies and bowls of ice cream with their father. She also said she appreciates seeing her children enjoy a close relationship with their dad.
