Rubio Rules Out 2028 Run, Pushes JD Vance as GOP Hopeful

Secretary of State Marco Rubio shut down rumors about a potential 2028 presidential campaign. Speaking with Lara Trump, Rubio firmly stated that the Vice President JD Vance would make a strong Republican nominee. “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that,” Rubio said on “My View with Lara Trump.”

Rubio emphasized his close personal connection with Vance, calling him one of his “closest friends in politics.” He praised the vice president’s leadership and effectiveness, especially during their time serving together in the Trump administration. Notably, Rubio expressed no desire to seek higher office himself. Instead, he reaffirmed his commitment to his current post. “I want to do this job as long as the president allows me to,” he said.

Trump appointed Rubio as Secretary of State after defeating Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Rubio, a former senator from Florida, quickly became a key figure in Trump’s new Cabinet. According to Rubio, his role in foreign policy and diplomacy has brought him a deep sense of purpose. He believes his work under Trump has already left a meaningful legacy.

“If we keep working at this pace,” Rubio told Lara Trump, “I’ll look back and feel proud. I’ll know I made a difference.” Rubio also noted that he sees his current position as the peak of his political life. “And I would be satisfied with that as the apex of my career,” he concluded.

This full-throated endorsement of JD Vance adds fuel to speculation around a JD Vance 2028 campaign. While Vance has not announced any formal intention to run, Rubio’s comments suggest a growing movement within the GOP. With growing enthusiasm from key party figures like Rubio, JD Vance 2028 may gain traction in the coming months. As Republican leaders begin positioning for the future, all eyes now turn to the vice president and his next move.
