Ford Faces Challenges as Fuel Pump Defects Prompt Major Recall

Ford faces challenges as fuel pump defects prompt major recall across the United States. Ford is now recalling more than 850,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles. The issue involves low-pressure fuel pumps that could lead to sudden engine stalls.

The recall covers various 2021 to 2023 models. These include the Ford F-150, Bronco, Explorer, Mustang, Expedition, and Super Duty trucks. The Lincoln Aviator and Navigator are also affected. Owners will start receiving official notices from Ford beginning July 14.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect increases crash risks. Engine stalls can happen when pumps fail in hot weather or low fuel conditions. Symptoms include reduced power, rough performance, or a check engine light. So far, six drivers have filed complaints, and the agency estimates 10% of recalled units are faulty.

Ford began investigating this issue in 2022. At that time, warranty claims spiked, especially in warm-weather states. After reviewing pump performance, Ford traced the issue to parts supplied below required standards. These pumps may cause vapor lock, which blocks fuel flow.

As of mid-2025, Ford has logged nearly 1,900 warranty claims. However, the company has not yet released a fix. Engineers are still working on a proper repair solution.

Ford faces challenges as fuel pump defects prompt major recall during a tough year for the automaker. In June alone, Ford issued another recall involving over 534,000 vehicles. This recent action brings the total higher than all recalls in 2023. Ford has now led the industry in recalls for three straight years.

CEO Jim Farley revealed during an earnings call that recalls cost the company $4.8 billion annually. These ongoing issues put pressure on Ford’s finances and reputation.

For now, drivers should watch for signs of fuel trouble. They are also advised to keep their gas tanks full, especially in summer. Ford faces challenges as fuel pump defects prompt major recall, raising safety concerns and operational costs for the company.
