Troublesome Ending Inside the Rift Between Elon Musk and Donald Trump

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles recently shared her thoughts on the rocky relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. In a new interview, Wiles described their association as having a “troublesome ending.”

While speaking with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine on the “Pod Force One” podcast, Wiles addressed Musk’s departure from the Trump administration in May. She described Musk as having a “fatherly fixation” on Trump—an attachment she believed was inevitably going to create problems.

Wiles said, “The president was very kind to Elon. He had much to offer us.” She explained that Musk brought valuable knowledge and connections to the administration. However, the partnership ultimately did not end well.

The tension escalated after Musk criticized the Trump-backed “Big, Beautiful Bill,” calling it a “disgusting abomination.” Since then, Musk has started a new political venture called the “America Party.” His goal is to win key seats in Congress to create a swing bloc. This bloc would influence legislation and challenge the extremes of both major parties.

Wiles admitted she was puzzled by the fallout. “I enjoyed working with Elon. He’s fascinating and sees the world differently,” she told Devine. “That’s probably what the president saw, too, but it still came to a bad ending.”

Meanwhile, Trump dismissed the idea of a third party. Before boarding Air Force One in Bedminster, N.J., he said, “I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party. We have tremendous success with the Republican Party.” He added that a third party would only add confusion to the two-party system.

The public fallout between Elon Musk and Donald Trump highlights the challenges of political alliances in today’s landscape. Musk’s new party signals a push against traditional politics, while Trump remains committed to the Republican base.

As this story develops, observers will watch to see if Musk’s “America Party” gains traction or if the two-party system continues to dominate U.S. politics. For now, the end of their partnership leaves a lasting impression of what could have been.
