US-China Trade War Escalates as China Vows to “Fight to the End”

The US-China trade war is heating up again, with China declaring it will “fight to the end” in response to new US tariffs. This latest clash threatens businesses on both sides, increasing uncertainty for global markets.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods, raising total duties to 20%. In response, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, issued a strong statement. “Exerting extreme pressure on China is the wrong target and the wrong calculation,” he said. “If the US insists on a tariff war, trade war, or any other war, China will fight to the end.”

The statement quickly gained traction. China’s foreign ministry posted it on X, and the Chinese embassy in Washington amplified the message. “If war is what the US wants, we’re ready to fight till the end,” the embassy declared.

The new tariffs target a wide range of Chinese products, from electronics to industrial goods. Many US businesses fear higher costs, while economists warn of supply chain disruptions. Meanwhile, China has responded with its own tariffs of up to 15% on US agricultural products, dealing another blow to American farmers.

Tensions between the two nations go beyond trade. Trump has linked the tariffs to China’s alleged role in the fentanyl crisis, claiming that Chinese suppliers fuel the US drug epidemic. However, China denies these accusations, arguing that the US is using fentanyl as an excuse for economic pressure.

This escalation comes at a critical time. China’s top political leaders are currently meeting at the “two sessions” event, a gathering that usually promotes stability. Instead, Beijing has chosen a confrontational stance, signaling that the trade war is far from over.

With both sides refusing to back down, the global business community faces growing uncertainty. China remains firm in its position, repeating that it will “fight to the end.” Whether negotiations will resume or tensions will worsen remains unclear.
