The Fathom also incorporates a structural lithium iron phosphate battery pack into its floor structure. Ford expects the battery design and manufacturing changes to reduce production costs by approximately 20% to 30%.
Meanwhile, aerodynamic improvements should help the vehicle target more than 300 miles of driving range. However, final performance figures could depend on production specifications and testing.
Ford has also redesigned the final assembly process around a more flexible manufacturing approach. Instead of relying entirely on a traditional long assembly line, workers can build different sections before combining them.
The company says this method reduces the space required for workstations by approximately 40%. Additionally, Ford expects the approach to shorten manufacturing times by roughly 15%.
