Tomahawk Missile Sale Considered by Trump After Gaza Peace Deal

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he may approve a Tomahawk missile sale to Ukraine, signaling a major shift in U.S. defense strategy and growing frustration with Russia’s actions in the war.

Speaking shortly after securing a peace deal to end the Gaza conflict, Trump confirmed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had requested the advanced missiles. “He would like to have Tomahawks,” Trump said. “We have a lot of Tomahawks.” His comments hinted that Washington might soon give Kyiv long-range strike capabilities.

The announcement quickly fueled global tension. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that approving a Tomahawk missile sale would mark “a new stage of escalation.” He said the move could push Moscow and Washington toward direct confrontation. Despite the warning, Trump insisted his administration would defend U.S. interests and continue supporting Ukraine.

Zelensky will visit the White House on Friday to discuss military support and security developments in Eastern Europe. The Pentagon has not confirmed whether formal steps toward a sale have begun. Still, Trump’s comments reveal a change in tone following his Middle East peace efforts.

Trump’s remarks also highlight his growing impatience with Putin, who has refused to compromise despite recent talks. Analysts believe the proposal could pressure Moscow while reassuring U.S. allies that Washington remains committed to European stability.

Reactions in Europe were divided. Some nations welcomed stronger Ukrainian defenses, while others warned the deal could heighten tensions and risk a NATO confrontation. Defense experts added that current Tomahawk production levels could allow quick delivery if Trump approves the transfer.

For now, the Tomahawk missile sale remains under consideration. However, the move could reshape both the Ukraine war and the balance of power between Washington and Moscow as Trump blends diplomacy with strategic deterrence.
