Elon Musk’s xAI has launched its latest AI model, Grok 3, boasting significant improvements over its predecessor. The company claims Grok 3 surpasses competing models from major AI developers in performance. xAI also revealed plans to open-source Grok 2 later this year. Alongside the new model, updates to the Grok app for iOS and web platforms introduce a range of new features. A smaller, faster version of the model, Grok 3 Mini, has also been released, designed for speed at the cost of some accuracy.
During a recent livestream announcement, Musk stated that Grok 3 is ten times more powerful and significantly more capable than Grok 2. He had previously hinted at Grok 3’s advanced reasoning skills. The Grok 3 family includes Grok 3 Reasoning and Grok 3 Mini Reasoning, both designed for problem-solving, similar to other advanced AI models. These reasoning models incorporate real-time fact-checking to reduce inaccuracies, a common challenge for many AI systems.
xAI’s testing data suggests that Grok 3 Reasoning outperforms other leading models in benchmark tests, including a challenging mathematics assessment. The company highlighted the model’s strengths in math, science, and programming. Both Grok 3 Reasoning and Grok 3 Mini Reasoning are accessible through the Grok app. Upcoming features for the Grok app include a new search tool that will analyze online information to provide answers to user queries, and a voice mode with a synthesized voice, expected soon.
