U.S. Pressures Russia and Ukraine With Final Peace Proposal Amid Stalled War Talks

During a diplomatic visit to India, the Vice President announced that the United States has presented a clear and firm proposal to both Russia and Ukraine, urging them to agree to terms that could bring an end to the war that has now dragged on for over three years. The message was unambiguous: accept the proposal, or the U.S. may withdraw from its role in the negotiation process.

“We’ve put forward a straightforward offer to both sides,” the Vice President stated, emphasizing that after extensive diplomatic efforts, the time has come for a decision. “Either they agree to it, or we walk away. We’ve done our part through sustained diplomacy and efforts on the ground.”

He also underscored that a true resolution requires both militaries to cease hostilities, suggesting a freeze in the conflict as the necessary first step toward rebuilding and stabilizing both nations.

These remarks followed confirmation that the Secretary of State would not be participating in an international ceasefire summit in London, citing scheduling complications. Despite the absence, the U.S. sent a representative its special presidential envoy for Ukraine to participate in the discussions.

Later in the week, the Secretary of State indicated plans to engage in follow-up discussions and reschedule his UK visit. Meanwhile, signals from the administration hinted that the U.S. could step away from negotiations if meaningful progress isn’t made soon, even as the President reaffirmed his commitment to achieving a peace deal.

“We’re not going to keep tolerating delay while lives are lost,” the President said in a press briefing, expressing cautious optimism that the U.S. still has a viable path to broker peace between the two countries.
