Trump Signals Potential Breakthrough in Iran Nuclear Deal Negotiations

President Donald Trump has hinted that a significant development regarding a nuclear deal with Iran could be imminent, just over a month after his administration reinstated a “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump suggested that the U.S. is in the final stages of negotiations with Iran and expressed hope that military intervention could be avoided.

“It’s an interesting time in the world’s history. We have a situation with Iran where something is going to happen very soon, very, very soon,” Trump said. “You’ll be hearing about it shortly. Hopefully, we can achieve a peace deal. I’m not speaking from a position of strength or weakness, but I’d prefer a peace deal over the alternative. However, the alternative would also resolve the issue.”

In a preview of an upcoming interview with FOX Business, Trump revealed that he sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging Tehran to agree to a nuclear deal or face potential military consequences. The full interview is set to air on Sunday.

“I would rather negotiate a deal,” Trump said in the interview. “I’m not sure everyone agrees with me, but we can reach an agreement that would be just as effective as a military victory. The time is now. Something will happen one way or the other. I’ve written to them, expressing my hope that they will negotiate, because a military intervention would be devastating for them.”
