A Pennsylvania collision involving a state police helicopter and small airplane killed one pilot Wednesday night. Meanwhile, two Pennsylvania State Police troopers suffered injuries during the crash near Carlisle Airport. Bivens said the Cessna unexpectedly moved toward the right shortly before striking the helicopter. Consequently, the airplane hit the helicopter’s rear section before damaging critical rotor components.
The impact reportedly struck the helicopter’s tail rotor and main rotor during the collision. As a result, both aircraft crashed following the violent midair impact near the airport grounds. Emergency crews responded quickly and began assisting those involved in the aviation accident. Authorities subsequently confirmed that the airplane’s sole occupant had died.
Bivens said investigators currently believe nobody else occupied the Cessna during the flight. Therefore, officials have identified the deceased individual as the aircraft’s pilot.
