North Korea Warns of Retaliation Over US Bomber Drills in South Korea

North Korea issued a warning on Thursday, threatening retaliation after the United States deployed long-range bombers over South Korea as part of a joint aerial exercise earlier this week. The North views such military operations as rehearsals for a potential attack.

On Tuesday, US B-1B bombers flew over the Korean Peninsula, conducting training missions alongside South Korean F-35A and F-16 fighter jets, as well as US F-16s. The drill, according to South Korea’s Defense Ministry, was designed to showcase the strength of the two allies’ combined defense posture in the face of North Korea’s ongoing nuclear weapons development.

Pyongyang did not provide specific details about its potential response, but the threat underscores continued volatility on the Korean Peninsula as military tensions escalate.

The latest exercises come amid broader US efforts to reassure allies in the region and reinforce deterrence, as the Trump administration intensifies its military and strategic focus across East Asia.
