Elon Musk has suggested that Ukraine was behind a cyberattack on X after the social media platform experienced widespread outages on Monday, March 10, 2025.
Thousands of users reported being unable to access the platform during the disruption. Musk, who acquired the site formerly known as Twitter in 2022, addressed the situation in a post on Monday.
“We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources,” Musk stated. “Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”
In subsequent comments to media, Musk elaborated on his suspicions: “There was a massive cyberattack to try and bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”
The billionaire entrepreneur did not provide specific evidence to support his claim about the origin of the attack, nor did he specify if his technical team had confirmed the source of the disruption.
This incident comes amid ongoing tensions between Musk and Ukrainian officials over various matters, including the use of Starlink satellite internet services in the region.
Cybersecurity experts note that determining the true source of attacks can be challenging, as sophisticated actors often route their activities through various locations to mask their identity.
Neither Ukrainian government officials nor representatives from X have issued formal statements addressing Musk’s allegations at this time.
