Hamas Planned Attack Raises Tensions

The U.S. Department of State warned on Saturday about a potential Hamas planned attack targeting Palestinian civilians. Officials cited credible intelligence indicating the attack would violate the existing ceasefire. The announcement raises concerns about regional stability and civilian safety.

State Department officials said the attack “would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement.” They added it would undermine progress from recent mediation efforts. The guarantors demanded Hamas honor its obligations. The United States remains committed to civilian safety, maintaining calm, and advancing peace in Gaza.

The ceasefire began last weekend, ending two years of conflict after the October 7, 2023, attacks in southern Israel. The agreement included provisions to return hostages and stop targeted violence. On Monday, Israel received the last 20 surviving hostages, while Hamas still holds the remains of others who were killed.

The State Department warned that measures would protect civilians and preserve the ceasefire if Hamas proceeds with the planned attack. Analysts said the warning reflects U.S. concerns for civilians and deterrence strategy.

President Donald Trump also warned Hamas on Thursday via Truth Social. He shared footage showing executions in Gaza City’s main square. Trump said continued violence would prompt a U.S. military response. He stressed the actions were “not part of the deal” and urged Hamas to respect the ceasefire.

Regional experts cautioned that renewed attacks could escalate tensions across the Middle East. Any violation of the ceasefire could undermine recent diplomacy and risk wider conflict. Officials monitor the situation closely and urge restraint.

The U.S. and other guarantors continue intelligence operations in the region. They emphasize civilian protection and readiness to respond if Hamas ignores the warnings. Diplomats reaffirm that maintaining calm and peace remains the top priority.
