A growing number of Ford recalls has affected nearly every vehicle in the company’s lineup since 2020. Safety notices issued over several years have impacted millions of vehicles across multiple categories. Automobiles ranging from compact crossovers to heavy-duty trucks have faced various mechanical and software issues. Only one vehicle model avoided the widespread wave of Ford recalls during the six years.
The only model largely untouched by the recalls was the Ford GT sports car. This limited production performance vehicle ended production after the 2022 model year. The car was designed as a tribute to the historic Ford GT40 racing program. That legendary racing machine famously dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1960s.
Although the GT avoided most issues affecting other vehicles, it still experienced limited recalls. Earlier versions faced potential airbag concerns, while later models had possible hydraulic system problems. Nevertheless, those incidents remained small compared with the widespread issues seen across Ford’s broader lineup. As a result, the GT stands out during the broader period of Ford recalls.
Across the company’s lineup, sixteen different models received at least one recall notice. These vehicles include sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, passenger cars, and commercial vans. In total, the recalls affected tens of millions of vehicles sold during recent years. Many of the problems involved electronic components and modern vehicle software systems.
Ford’s popular SUV and crossover models experienced several safety issues during the period. Vehicles, including the Escape, Bronco Sport, Bronco Explorer, Expedition, Mustang Mach-E, and Edge, all received recalls. Reported problems ranged from malfunctioning rearview cameras to cracked fuel injectors. Some faults also involved brake software errors or electronic door latch failures.
Pickup trucks also experienced significant technical problems that triggered additional Ford recalls. Models such as the Maverick Ranger F-150, F-150 Lightning, and Super Duty trucks were affected. Several recalls involved electrical failures that could disable trailer lights or brake signals. These malfunctions could increase the risk of crashes when drivers tow heavy loads.
The company’s remaining passenger car also encountered technical concerns requiring corrective action. The Ford Mustang coupe and convertible both received recall notices for camera-related problems. Some vehicles displayed blank or inverted rear camera images during reversing maneuvers. Such issues can reduce driver visibility and raise safety concerns during parking situations.
Commercial vehicles were not immune to the wave of recalls affecting the manufacturer. Vans, including the Transit E, Transit, and Transit Connect, also experienced multiple technical defects. These issues involved braking systems, electrical components, towing hardware, and driver visibility systems. Because commercial vehicles often operate constantly, these problems require immediate attention from engineers.
Despite the rising number of Ford recalls, the company says the increase reflects stronger safety oversight. Executives explained that engineers expanded testing programs to detect problems earlier in development. The company also hired additional safety specialists to review vehicle hardware and software systems. This approach aims to correct potential defects before they cause accidents or widespread failures.
The strategy also led to a record number of recall announcements in 2025. That year, Ford issued more than one hundred fifty separate recalls across its vehicle lineup. The figure surpassed the previous industry record set by another major automaker in 2014. Company officials maintain that aggressive recall actions ultimately help protect drivers and maintain customer safety.
