Phoenix police have arrested a man in connection with a gruesome dismemberment murder. Christopher Michael Ebanks, 32, faces first-degree murder and kidnapping charges. The alleged discovery occurred at an apartment on May 7, around 9 p.m. Consequently, this dismemberment murder investigation began after a caller alerted authorities. The caller, Jeffery Majalca, said his daughter claimed her boyfriend had died. She told her father that the body lay inside the apartment. The deceased victim went into a bathtub before wrapping in a closet.
Police officers arrived and immediately smelled bleach and cleaning chemicals. They observed wet floors and cleaning supplies throughout the apartment. Officers also found blood and signs of cleanup efforts everywhere. Therefore, the dismemberment murder scene showed clear attempts to conceal evidence. Investigators later discovered the remains of a deceased male. The body was missing its head and hands, according to court documents. The dismembered remains were wrapped in carpeting and an air mattress. An extension cord tied up the gruesome package.
During the investigation, Selena Blanco told authorities about the events. She said her boyfriend contacted Ebanks, whom she called Draco, for rent money. An argument escalated, and Ebanks used a knife to repeatedly stab the man. She claimed that Ebanks forced her to drive to his Glendale apartment. He made her take a shower to destroy evidence. He also used a knife and a gun to threaten her. Consequently, this dismemberment murder involved a reluctant witness coerced into helping. Police used surveillance video and phone records to track Ebanks. They executed a search warrant on May 8 and found human remains.
Ebanks allegedly refused to speak with investigators after his arrest. A judge set a $1 million cash bond for him. He will appear in court again on May 14.
