Deadly Cliff Crash Leaves Three Dead in California Mountains

A Deadly Cliff Crash claimed three lives in California’s Santa Cruz Mountains after a vehicle left the roadway and plunged down a steep embankment.

Authorities reported the crash at approximately 9:30 p.m. local time on June 22. The incident occurred about five miles west of Saratoga along Highway 9 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. According to investigators, a sedan was traveling east when the driver lost control. The vehicle then left the roadway and went over the side of the highway.

Officials stated that the car fell approximately 400 feet down the cliff. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and began recovery operations. The crash resulted in the deaths of all three occupants inside the vehicle.

Authorities confirmed that a 21-year-old man from Yuba City was driving the sedan at the time of the incident. A 27-year-old man from Salem, Oregon, was also traveling in the vehicle. The third victim was a 17-year-old boy from San Jose. All three individuals died as a result of the crash, although officials have not publicly released their identities.

Investigators continue working to determine exactly what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. At this stage, authorities have only confirmed that the driver lost control before the vehicle went over the cliff.

The Deadly Cliff Crash prompted a significant emergency response in the mountainous area. Law enforcement officers secured the location while recovery crews worked overnight. Authorities closed Highway 9 in both directions for approximately three hours. The closure allowed investigators to examine the scene and safely recover the vehicle.

Road closures also helped emergency personnel manage traffic while conducting their investigation. Crews carefully documented evidence before reopening the highway to the public.

Incident records indicated that several people arrived at the location shortly after the crash. Family members were reportedly among those gathered near the scene during the response. Officials noted that the county coroner arrived shortly after emergency personnel began operations. Authorities continued processing the scene as investigators worked to collect information.

The area where the crash occurred includes winding mountain roads and steep terrain. Investigators have not released additional details regarding roadway conditions or other possible contributing factors.

Law enforcement officials are asking potential witnesses to come forward. Anyone who observed the crash or events leading up to it is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol’s San Jose Area Office. Witness information may assist investigators as they continue reviewing evidence. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The Deadly Cliff Crash has drawn attention because of the loss of three lives, including a teenager. Officials continue examining the circumstances surrounding the incident while working to establish a complete timeline. Investigators remain focused on determining how the vehicle left the roadway and whether additional factors contributed to the crash. Further information may become available as authorities complete their review.
