Acer, a major computer manufacturer, has announced it will increase laptop prices in the United States due to new import tariffs on Chinese-made hardware imposed by the Trump administration.
Acer CEO Jason Chen confirmed the price hikes, stating that the company is responding to the newly implemented taxes on imported goods from China. The new tariffs, which took effect earlier this month, impose an additional 10 percent levy on goods shipped into the US from Chinese factories.
The price increases will not affect existing Acer stock already in the US before February 4, 2025, and may take a few weeks to reflect in consumer prices.
While Acer is the first vendor to publicly confirm passing the tariff costs onto consumers, industry sources suggest other companies are also preparing to raise prices.
