Authorities continue an urgent search for Michael Paul Brown, a former soldier who is armed and extremely dangerous. Police say Brown opened fire inside The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, killing four people. The attack happened in the morning. According to investigators, Brown shot a bartender and three patrons. He then ran from the scene and escaped in a white Ford F-150.
Shortly after, officers located the truck. However, Brown was no longer near the vehicle. As a result, police shifted their focus to the mountainous area near Stumptown Road, just west of town. Lee Johnson from the Montana Department of Justice confirmed Brown had not yet been caught. He warned residents to stay inside and avoid contact. He also reminded the public that Brown is armed and extremely dangerous.
Since the shooting, local, state, and federal agencies have joined the search. For example, officers are patrolling the area on foot. Meanwhile, helicopters and drones are scanning from above. Brown is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. Officers believe he is still hiding near Anaconda.
Earlier in his life, Brown served in Iraq. After his deployment, he joined the Montana National Guard but left several years later. His family said he struggled with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. They described his condition as severe. The governor called the shooting a terrible tragedy. He said the state will continue supporting law enforcement. He also promised to keep the community informed.
Although the town is shaken, authorities urged people not to panic. Johnson stressed that one man’s actions do not define Montana. Still, he repeated that Brown is armed and extremely dangerous and should not be approached.Police are asking anyone with information to come forward immediately.
