The US Embassy in Jerusalem has issued an urgent security alert, instructing American government employees and their families to shelter in place. This warning comes as Iran’s missile and drone strikes have killed at least 10 people in Israel and injured over 180.
“All US government personnel and their families must remain indoors until further notice,” the embassy stated. The urgent security alert was posted on the embassy’s website and social media as attacks continued into Sunday.
Due to nearby missile impacts, the embassy offered voluntary relocation for employees living close to Israel’s Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv. “Those near high-risk areas may move to safer locations,” the alert clarified. Meanwhile, Israel has shut down its airspace, canceling all flights. An Israel Airports Authority spokesperson confirmed the closures as Iranian strikes intensified.
Iran launched these attacks in response to Israeli airstrikes on its nuclear and military sites. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended Israel’s actions, saying Iran planned to arm terrorists with nuclear weapons.
“If we hadn’t acted, Iran would have spread nuclear terror worldwide,” Netanyahu warned on social media. Israel also issued a direct warning to Iranian citizens, urging them to stay away from military facilities.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) emphasized their efforts to minimize civilian harm. “We warn Iranian citizens in Farsi to evacuate military sites,” the IDF posted. “Unlike Iran, we prioritize innocent lives over tactical advantage.” As tensions rise, the world watches whether this conflict will escalate further. For now, the urgent security alert remains in effect, with no clear end in sight.
