Prosecutors in Sedgwick County charged a Wichita teen with murder, but the suspect has not turned himself in. Police are still searching for Jaden Watts, 18, who allegedly shot and killed 24-year-old Demarc M. Burgess during a violent argument.
Officers said Watts fired several shots during the confrontation, hitting Burgess multiple times. Paramedics rushed Burgess to a hospital, but he died from his injuries. Investigators quickly named Watts as the main suspect.
After the incident, the Wichita Police Department issued a felony arrest warrant. Officers said they needed to question Watts because he might have critical details about the case. However, he disappeared before detectives could speak with him.
Despite repeated public appeals, police have not located him. They believe the Wichita teen wanted for murder may be receiving help to stay hidden.
Investigators also charged another man, Trillian Ross, in connection with the shooting. Prosecutors said Ross tampered with evidence and illegally possessed a firearm. Officers believe he tried to help cover up the crime.
