Father and Two Sons with Autism Die in Goshen House Fire

A devastating Goshen house fire tore through a home, claiming the lives of a devoted father and his two sons. As a result, the entire Orange County community continues to mourn this heartbreaking loss.

The Goshen house fire began during the evening in a multi-family residence. Shortly after it started, neighbors spotted thick smoke and visible flames. Consequently, although firefighters arrived within minutes, the flames had already spread through most of the building.

Upon entering the downstairs unit, first responders found 50-year-old Shane Munn in the living room. Additionally, they discovered his two sons, 17-year-old Ryan and 12-year-old Travis, unconscious in a nearby bedroom. Emergency crews rushed the boys to the hospital. Sadly, despite doctors’ best efforts, both children died from their injuries.

According to the family’s landlord, Shane always prioritized his sons. “Everything he did was for his kids,” the landlord said. He explained that Shane worked tirelessly to care for Ryan and Travis, who were both autistic and nonverbal.

However, many are still puzzled as to why the family couldn’t escape the Goshen house fire. The landlord emphasized that the ground-floor apartment had several windows and exits. “We just don’t understand why they didn’t get out,” he said. “It’s heartbreaking.”

Earlier that evening, an upstairs neighbor noticed smoke coming from a pipe behind her kitchen stove. As a precaution, she quickly evacuated with her two young children. Before leaving the property, she saw Shane using a weed trimmer outside. Moments later, he sprinted back into the home. Tragically, he never made it out again.

Although fire officials confirmed the blaze started accidentally, they are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the Goshen house fire. With time, authorities hope to uncover answers that may bring clarity and comfort to those affected.

Meanwhile, the Orange County sheriff expressed sympathy for the victims and the town. “In moments of great loss, our community always shows strength,” he said. “We fully support the Munn family and the entire Goshen community.”

Since the tragedy, neighbors have joined together to support the grieving relatives. Many remember Shane as a kind and hardworking father who gave everything for his sons. Therefore, local residents have begun organizing memorials and donation efforts to honor the family’s memory. Despite the pain, Goshen continues to stand united in love, strength, and remembrance following the Goshen house fire.
