An 81-year-old California mother lost both legs following a Restaurant Crash involving an allegedly impaired driver in Los Angeles. Vargas had been having lunch with her daughter, Gabriela, and a male friend around 3:30 p.m. Outside the Boyle Heights restaurant. Suddenly, an SUV reportedly left the roadway and crossed onto the sidewalk near the restaurant’s outdoor tables.
Surveillance footage showed the vehicle moving toward the diners before striking the table and surrounding area. Consequently, the impact sent people, furniture and other objects across the sidewalk as diners struggled to react.
Gabriela recalled hearing tires screech shortly before seeing the approaching vehicle. She subsequently suffered a head injury and a significant cut to her knee during the collision.
Meanwhile, the SUV pinned Cristina’s lower body beneath the vehicle, leaving her with devastating injuries. Emergency responders transported Cristina, Gabriela and their male companion to a hospital for immediate treatment.
