A Texas pregnancy deception case has drawn renewed attention after officials detailed how Taylor Parker faked pregnancy for months before committing a fatal attack on her friend. Authorities say the case involved a prolonged pregnancy deception case that ultimately led to the killing of 21-year-old Reagan Simmons-Hancock and the abduction of her unborn child in 2020. Investigators later confirmed Parker was convicted of capital murder in 2022 and now sits on Texas death row.
Simmons-Hancock met Parker through a wedding photography referral, and the two quickly formed a close friendship. Investigators said Parker posed as a fellow expectant mother while working as Simmons-Hancock’s photographer. Meanwhile, Simmons-Hancock remained unaware that Parker had undergone a hysterectomy years earlier and could not become pregnant.
Authorities revealed that Parker maintained her fabricated pregnancy for roughly ten months. She used a silicone bump, falsified ultrasound images, and staged medical appointments. Additionally, she hosted a gender-reveal event, posed for maternity photographs, and created a nursery to reinforce her claims.
Investigators said Parker strengthened her deception by fabricating medical documents and online updates. She also told her partner that pandemic restrictions prevented attendance at prenatal visits. Furthermore, officials said she continued the false narrative even as inconsistencies began to emerge.
According to investigators, Parker targeted Simmons-Hancock while continuing her long-running pregnancy deception case. Prosecutors said she developed a relationship based on shared pregnancy experiences that did not exist. They also said Parker used that trust to gain access to Simmons-Hancock shortly before the attack.
On October 9, 2020, authorities found Simmons-Hancock dead inside her home. Investigators reported more than 100 sharp-force injuries and a fatal head trauma. Additionally, officials said a scalpel removed her unborn daughter, who later died and was identified as Braxlynn Sage.
Simmons-Hancock’s 3-year-old child remained inside the home during the attack and survived unharmed. Later that same day, officers stopped Parker while she drove erratically and claimed she had given birth. Emergency crews transported her and the infant she carried, but doctors pronounced the baby dead on arrival.
Medical examinations showed Parker had no uterus and could not have been pregnant. DNA testing confirmed the infant belonged to Simmons-Hancock. As a result, investigators arrested Parker and charged her with capital murder and related offenses.
Prosecutors said testimony confirmed the baby showed signs of life at birth. Meanwhile, defense attorneys argued against certain charges during trial proceedings. Ultimately, the court convicted Parker of capital murder in 2022.
