Honda Recall Covers 880,000 Vehicles Over Rear Suspension Risk

Honda’s recall affects more than 880,000 SUVs and pickup trucks across the United States due to a rear suspension corrosion issue that could increase crash risk. The company identified rust-related weakening in a key structural component, which supports the rear suspension system in multiple vehicle models.

Federal safety regulators reported that road salt used in colder states may accelerate corrosion in the rear subframe. Over time, this corrosion can thin the metal structure and weaken mounting points. As a result, drivers could experience handling changes or hear unusual noises from the rear of the vehicle.

According to safety officials, the affected vehicles include several Honda and Acura models produced between 2014 and 2023. These include Honda Pilot, Honda Ridgeline, Honda Passport, and Acura MDX vehicles sold in large numbers across the U.S. market.

In affected regions, especially northern states, repeated exposure to winter road treatments increases the likelihood of long-term corrosion damage. Eventually, vibrations and structural stress may cause the mounting area to crack or fail. That failure raises the risk of reduced vehicle control while driving.

Regulators confirmed that drivers may notice warning signs such as abnormal sounds, rear vibration, or changes in handling behavior. In some cases, these symptoms could appear before structural failure occurs, giving owners time to seek inspection or repair.

Honda plans to address the issue through inspections at authorized dealerships. Technicians will examine the rear subframe and install reinforcement components when needed. If damage already exists, they will repair or replace the affected parts at no cost to owners.

The automaker confirmed that it has not received any reports of injuries or deaths linked to the defect in the United States. However, it initiated the recall as a preventive safety measure after identifying corrosion risks during internal and regulatory reviews.

The recall impacts vehicles sold across multiple states, including those with heavy winter road salt use. This geographic factor plays a major role in corrosion development, according to safety documentation released by regulators.

Additionally, Honda continues to monitor other safety issues across its vehicle lineup. The company recently announced another recall involving nearly 100,000 vehicles due to a separate airbag-related defect. That issue involved the possibility of unintended airbag deployment during crashes.

Following the announcement, Honda shares showed slight market movement as investors reacted to the scale of the recall. Meanwhile, regulators continue urging owners of affected vehicles to schedule inspections promptly to reduce potential safety risks.
