Champion Foods LLC announced the voluntary recall after learning that one of its ingredient suppliers had identified a potential contamination issue. According to the company, the concern involves milk powder that a supplier previously recalled because of possible Salmonella exposure. Subsequently, that milk powder reached a third-party manufacturer responsible for producing a seasoning blend.
The seasoning blend manufacturer used the ingredient in a cheese sauce mixture included within the frozen bread product. Consequently, Champion Foods reviewed the situation and decided to take precautionary action. Although testing did not detect Salmonella in the affected batches, company officials chose to move forward with the recall to protect consumers.
Meanwhile, Costco contacted members who purchased the frozen bread products during the affected period. The retailer informed customers that purchase records showed they, or household members linked to their accounts, bought the recalled products. Therefore, Costco advised customers not to eat the products under any circumstances.
Instead, customers should return the affected items to any Costco warehouse location. In return, shoppers will receive full refunds for qualifying purchases. Furthermore, Costco emphasized that customer safety remains its highest priority throughout the recall process.
The recall covers both single-pack and two-pack versions of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread. Specifically, the single-pack product carries UPC 8 70375 00511 1. In addition, affected packages contain sell-by dates ranging from February 4, 2027, through April 21, 2027.
Likewise, the two-pack product carries UPC 8 70375 00509 8. The affected dates include several production runs extending from early February through late March 2027. Customers should carefully examine packaging details before deciding whether products fall within the recall.
Importantly, routine testing conducted before production showed no evidence of Salmonella contamination.
