Minneapolis Catholic School Shooting Leaves Two Children Dead, 17 Injured

A tragic event unfolded at a Minneapolis Catholic School shooting, leaving two children dead and 17 others injured. The shooting happened during morning Mass, just before the second day of school began.

Shortly after reports came in early that morning, the suspect opened fire through the church windows. Immediately, authorities responded to the scene. Of the 17 injured, 14 were children, and some remain in critical condition. Sadly, the two children who lost their lives were just 8 and 10 years old.

Governor Tim Walz confirmed he was briefed on the incident and expressed his prayers for the victims and their families. Meanwhile, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the shooting “unspeakable” and urged the community to support the affected families. “Do not think of these as just somebody else’s kids,” the mayor emphasized, highlighting the shared grief.

Authorities quickly identified the shooter as 23-year-old Robin Westman, who tragically took his own life after the attack. Additionally, officials found no explosives on the scene. Westman legally purchased the firearms and reportedly planned the attack carefully, even preparing a manifesto released on YouTube.

Moreover, the principal of Annunciation Catholic School, Matthew DeBoer, praised the courage of teachers and students. He explained that many adults shielded children while older students protected younger ones, likely preventing more deaths. “We lost two angels today,” DeBoer said, mourning the young victims.

Local hospitals received several of the injured. For instance, Children’s Minnesota admitted seven children aged 9 to 16, with one patient already discharged. Meanwhile, Hennepin Healthcare treated eleven people, including nine children. Four of those required surgery, and many remain in critical condition.

The FBI now investigates the Minneapolis Catholic School shooting as both domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics. Furthermore, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the investigation and the number of casualties.

Overall, this heartbreaking event continues to affect Minneapolis deeply. Therefore, community leaders and emergency responders remain focused on supporting victims and preventing further violence.
