3 Workers Die After Scaffolding Collapses at Port Arthur LNG Construction Site

A tragic workplace incident has left a Texas community in mourning after three workers died at a major construction site. The fatal event unfolded at the Port Arthur LNG project, where scaffolding collapsed, sending several workers plummeting from a dangerous height.

The accident happened early Tuesday morning. According to authorities, five workers were on the scaffolding when it suddenly gave way. Three men fell more than 60 feet to the ground. Two of them died at the scene, while the third passed away at the hospital.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Felix Jose Lopez, 42, Reginald Magee, 41, and Felipe Mendez, 25. All three were employed by Bechtel, the construction firm managing the site.

Two other workers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews treated them on site before transporting them for further care.

Officials say a full investigation is underway. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified. Additionally, Bechtel has launched its own internal review.

Bechtel issued a statement expressing sorrow. The company called it a “tragic incident” and confirmed they paused all operations. Workers were sent home to be with their families. The company pledged to cooperate fully with all authorities.

Sempra Infrastructure, the company behind the Port Arthur LNG project, also extended condolences. They stated that worker safety remains a top priority. Both companies emphasized they would share updates as new information emerges.

Meanwhile, former employee Taylor Mitchell described the work culture as a “brotherhood.” He said hearing the news broke his heart. “We show up every day to provide for our families,” Mitchell said. “It’s really sad and tragic.”

This tragic incident at Port Arthur LNG has raised questions about safety protocols and construction risks. The community remains shaken.

Many are calling for stronger measures to prevent another tragic incident at Port Arthur LNG. Worker safety advocates say more oversight is needed. Others say the collapse was avoidable.

Until investigations conclude, families and colleagues mourn the lives lost. For now, the tragic incident at Port Arthur LNG serves as a powerful reminder of the risks workers face every day.
