YouTube Music Finally Adds Lyrics Sharing Feature, Catching Up to Spotify and Apple Music

YouTube Music, one of the most popular music streaming services, is closing the feature gap with its rivals, Spotify and Apple Music, by introducing a highly-requested update. The feature, which allows users to share song lyrics with friends and followers, has long been available on its competitors, but it’s now finally making its way to YouTube Music.

The new lyrics-sharing feature allows users to select and share specific lines from a song’s lyrics, enhancing the app’s social sharing capabilities. Here’s how it works: when users are in the lyrics tab, a new Share button appears prominently. Tapping it will bring up a window displaying the lyrics, where you can choose the exact lines you want to share.

Once the lyrics are selected, a customization screen allows you to change the background color and preview your share card. The preview includes the song’s lyrics, album artwork, song name, artist, and a small YouTube Music logo at the bottom. After finalizing the look, users can then hit Share to send the lyrics card directly to social media apps like Instagram, save it to their device’s gallery, or share it via any other supported app.

This feature was spotted by a Reddit user on YouTube Music version 8.15.51 for Android devices, though the update appears to be rolling out gradually via a server-side update. While not all users have received the update yet, it’s expected to reach more devices soon.

YouTube Music’s decision to introduce this feature shows its commitment to bridging the gap with other streaming services. Apple Music and Spotify have offered lyrics sharing for years, and YouTube Music’s inclusion of this feature brings it up to speed with the competition.

For now, fans of YouTube Music will be pleased with the new functionality and may find it easier to engage with their music in more social ways.
