The Trump administration has dismissed National Security Agency (NSA) and US Cyber Command chief General Timothy Haugh amid what appears to be a broader removal of security officials. The firing follows President Donald Trump’s meeting with far right activist Laura Loomer, who reportedly urged the termination of officials she deemed disloyal.
Loomer claimed on social media that Haugh and his deputy Wendy Noble were fired for lacking loyalty to Trump. The president confirmed his intention to remove disloyal staff while speaking aboard Air Force One, stating, “We’re always going to let go of people we don’t like or people that may have loyalties to someone else.”
The shakeup extends beyond the NSA, with at least three White House National Security Council (NSC) officials Brian Walsh, Thomas Boodry, and David Feith also reportedly dismissed. Democrats, including House Intelligence Committee ranking member Jim Himes, condemned the move, with Himes calling Haugh “an honest and forthright leader” whose integrity may have led to his termination.
The firings follow recent controversy involving an NSC Signal group chat that accidentally included a journalist during discussions about military strikes in Yemen. While National Security Adviser Mike Waltz took responsibility for the leak, the extent of its role in the personnel changes remains unclear.
