UK and EU Launch Sweeping Russia Sanctions After Trump-Putin Ceasefire Call Stalls

The UK and European Union have imposed sweeping new measures in response to stalled negotiations, unveiling Russia sanctions after Trump-Putin call efforts failed to secure a ceasefire.

On Tuesday, officials in London and Brussels took coordinated action after President Donald Trump’s recent phone call with Vladimir Putin did not move peace talks forward.

Western officials have accused Putin of using diplomacy as a stalling tactic. While appearing open to negotiations, Russia has reportedly continued targeting civilians in Ukraine.

The UK government announced 100 new sanctions. These target Russian military operations, energy networks, financial systems, and key figures involved in pro-Kremlin disinformation campaigns.

A statement from the UK foreign office said, “People in Ukraine and across the world have paid the price for Putin’s aggression. Now he must pay the price for avoiding peace.”

Among the measures are penalties aimed at Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” which is accused of transporting sanctioned oil through illegal channels. Sanctions will also hit companies and individuals enabling the fleet’s activities.

Just hours later, the EU followed with similar sanctions, tightening restrictions on Russian assets and operations across Europe.

The new round of Russia sanctions after Trump-Putin call reflects mounting frustration in the West. Leaders say Putin continues to escalate the war while avoiding real diplomatic solutions.

Despite Trump’s push for a ceasefire during the recent call, no breakthroughs were made. Observers noted the Kremlin made no commitment to halt military actions.

The UK’s targeted approach focuses not only on direct warfare but on broader networks funding and sustaining the Russian offensive. Energy shipping, banking systems, and digital propaganda channels were all included in the sanctions package.

The EU’s measures align closely with Britain’s, signaling strong transatlantic unity against Russian aggression.

As violence intensifies and civilian casualties rise, pressure is building on Western leaders to isolate Moscow economically and diplomatically.

With Russia sanctions after Trump-Putin call gaining momentum, further coordinated actions could follow if ceasefire efforts continue to stall.
