Two Las Vegas Men Receive Life Sentences for Deliberate Fatal Hit-And-Run

In a tragic case, two men learned their sentences for a deliberate killing. A retired police chief died in a deliberate vehicular murder. The horrific event occurred in Las Vegas during August 2023. Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys finally faced legal consequences. Both individuals accepted separate guilty plea agreements last October. Their sentences were formally handed down in court recently. This deliberate vehicular murder shocked the entire local community.

Therefore, Judge Jacqueline Bluth firmly condemned the defendants’ cruel actions. She directly addressed the immense pain of the victim’s family. The judge emphasized the completely inexcusable nature of the crime. Furthermore, she noted the family’s additional traumatic experience. They had to watch video evidence of the incident. The judge found no valid reason for their conduct.

Furthermore, the victim was retired police chief Andreas Probst. He was simply riding his bicycle that August morning. Video evidence later revealed the shocking attack. A stolen Hyundai Elantra swerved into the bike lane. The driver intentionally struck Probst from behind. Disturbingly, the passenger recorded the entire event. The recording captured callous laughter before the impact. The pair then fled the scene immediately.

Moreover, authorities discovered the video on social media later. Jzamir Keys had allegedly shared it with friends. The clip ultimately led investigators to both suspects. Police arrested Ayala and Keys shortly afterward. During his arrest, Ayala showed absolutely no remorse. He reportedly bragged about receiving a light punishment. This deliberate vehicular murder was apparently not their first offense. They allegedly hit another bicyclist just minutes earlier. That seventy-two-year-old victim thankfully survived the encounter.

The Probst family delivered emotional victim impact statements. They described their profound and lasting heartbreak in court. Son Michael Probst spoke of his shattered family. He also questioned the defendants’ upbringing and parents. Daughter Taylor Probst mourned lost future milestones. Her father will never walk her down the aisle. Widow Crystal Probst said the choice destroyed her family. She stated the act broke her life’s foundation completely.

Both defendants declined to address the court directly. They refused the opportunity to speak before sentencing. Jesus Ayala, the driver, was seventeen at the time. He received a sentence of twenty years to life. The court added another two to ten years for battery. Jzamir Keys, the passenger, was sixteen years old. He received a sentence of eighteen years to life. The judge ordered these sentences to run concurrently.

This case highlights the severe consequences of violent crime. The sentences reflect the crime’s premeditated and heinous nature. The community remembers Andreas Probst as a dedicated public servant. His family must now endure a lifetime of grief. Justice has now been served for this deliberate vehicular murder. The legal process has reached its solemn conclusion.
