Two Bodies Found in Kansas Lake After Boating Incident

Two bodies found in Kansas lake have sadly brought closure to a search after a boating accident. The victims included a 44-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl.

According to the Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office, three people were swimming near Kimball Point when their boat drifted away. Because of a strong current, they could not return to it. None of them wore lifejackets, which made the situation even more dangerous.

Fortunately, a nearby camper saw what happened and quickly jumped into action. He swam out and helped one girl reach the shore. First responders brought her to a nearby hospital. Later, medical teams airlifted her to a Wichita hospital for further treatment. She remains in serious condition.

Officials identified the victims as Jerrod Dalke from Moundridge and Khloe Heim, the friend of Dalke’s daughter. His daughter was the only survivor. Sadly, she witnessed the entire tragedy unfold.

Eventually, rescue teams located Dalke close to where the swimmers went missing. Meanwhile, a boater discovered Heim near the face of the dam. With this confirmation, two bodies found in Kansas lake brought the search to an end.

Khloe Heim was remembered as an energetic and kind teen. She loved dancing, running track, and spending time with friends. Her family said she was adventurous and full of life. She had been excited to start high school in the fall.

In response, Sheriff Kenny Bernard thanked the many agencies that assisted in the search. These included fire and EMS units from Marquette and McPherson, along with dive teams, the Kansas Highway Patrol, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. The Lyons Police Department also helped.

As a result of the accident, officials urged everyone to wear lifejackets while swimming or boating. Sheriff Bernard stressed that even experienced swimmers are at risk in open water.

Although two bodies found in Kansas lake brought the operation to a close, the tragedy deeply affected the local community. Families now grieve the lives lost, while officials hope others will take water safety more seriously moving forward.
