Truth About 2016 Election Under Scrutiny as DOJ Launches Grand Jury Probe

The truth about the 2016 election is back in focus as the Department of Justice begins a new criminal investigation. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard confirmed that a grand jury probe is now underway. She spoke during her first interview since Attorney General Pam Bondi acted on her referral.

On Tuesday, Gabbard said’ Laura Ingraham that DOJ prosecutors met with her to discuss next steps. “They are leaving no stone unturned,” Gabbard stated. “This investigation will go deep. They’re determined to find the truth.”

Earlier this week, Bondi instructed a federal prosecutor to launch legal proceedings. According to a letter and sources, the prosecutor plans to present evidence before a grand jury. An indictment could follow.

Additionally, The DOJ action follows the creation of a special “strike force” to examine Gabbard’s evidence. She claims top Obama-era officials manipulated intelligence data to harm Donald Trump’s presidency.

Gabbard believes former President Obama and his national security team pushed a false Russia collusion story. She named ex-CIA Director John Brennan and ex-DNI James Clapper in the allegations. According to her, they built a fake narrative to justify investigations into Trump after his 2016 win.

Despite the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling granting presidential immunity, Gabbard wants transparency. “The American people deserve to know the truth about the 2016 election,” she said.

She added that she will release declassified documents to support her claims. “This wasn’t just a political spin. This was a deliberate act to mislead the public,” Gabbard said. Obama’s office strongly denied the accusations last month. A spokesperson called Gabbard’s claims “outrageous” and said they distract from real issues.

The 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report offers some clarity. It found no evidence that Trump colluded with Russia. However, it did confirm Russian efforts to undermine trust in U.S. elections. Senator Marco Rubio, now Secretary of State, led that investigation. He said Russia tried to damage confidence in democracy, but didn’t manipulate votes.

As the DOJ continues, the truth about the 2016 election remains at the heart of this growing controversy.
