President Donald Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday night attracted an estimated 36.6 million television viewers, according to audience measurement data.
This viewership surpassed the 32.2 million who tuned in for former President Joe Biden’s final State of the Union address the previous year. However, it was lower than the audiences for any of Trump’s annual addresses during his first term. His first speech to Congress in 2017 drew 47.7 million viewers, though overall television viewership has declined since then.
The audience measurement was based on data from 15 television networks, including those with broadcasts available on streaming platforms. One network, which has historically had a strong viewership among Trump supporters, recorded the highest audience with 10.7 million viewers. Other major networks drew between 1.9 million and 6.3 million viewers.
Demographic data indicated that 71% of those who watched Trump’s address on television were aged 55 and older.
