In his first address to Congress, President Donald J. Trump announced major initiatives to strengthen the U.S. military, including a surge in recruitment, the development of a ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense system, and efforts to revive American shipbuilding.
Trump credited the rise in military enlistment to his administration’s removal of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs across federal agencies. Since signing an executive order on his first day in office, he said, the military has seen its strongest recruitment numbers in 15 years.
He also proposed a new missile defense shield modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome, urging Congress to fund the project. “This is a dangerous world, and we must protect our citizens like never before,” he stated.
In addition, Trump vowed to revitalize American shipbuilding, announcing the creation of a new Office of Shipbuilding in the White House and tax incentives to encourage domestic ship production.
Further bolstering national security, he pledged to expand U.S. production of critical minerals and rare earth elements, vital for advanced military technology such as the F-35 aircraft and submarine systems.
Finally, Trump revealed the capture of the terrorist behind the 2021 Abbey Gate attack during the Afghanistan withdrawal, promising swift justice for the 13 American service members killed.
