Trump to Discuss Final Peace Deal with Putin Amid Ongoing Conflict in Ukraine

Former President Donald Trump announced that he plans to have a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to discuss the final details of an agreement aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In a message posted on his social media platform, Trump noted that while many aspects of the “Final Agreement” have been settled, significant issues remain unresolved. “Thousands of young soldiers, and others, are losing their lives. Each week, 2,500 soldiers are killed from both sides, and this must stop NOW,” Trump stated. “I’m looking forward to my conversation with President Putin.” Some of the key topics could include territorial concessions from Ukraine and control over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

The administration under Trump had been engaged in efforts to broker a resolution to the war, which has now stretched into its third year. According to reports, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko mentioned that Moscow is seeking an “ironclad” guarantee that Ukraine will not be allowed to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the U.S. had never been closer to achieving peace, with Washington awaiting a response from Moscow regarding a proposed 30-day ceasefire.

Earlier in the week, Ukraine agreed to the ceasefire proposal following a meeting with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia, though they emphasized that Moscow must commit to the terms. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged tougher sanctions on Russia, accusing Putin of attempting to delay peace talks to extend the conflict.

“It’s clear to everyone now—even those who have been unwilling to see the truth—that it is Putin who continues to prolong this war,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media. “For a week, Putin has been unable to approve the ceasefire proposal. He’s saying anything but what the world wants to hear.”

He called on global leaders to apply pressure on Moscow to end the war. “The ceasefire proposal is about saving lives and creating space for diplomacy to ensure lasting peace—something that Russia is ignoring,” he said. “The world must apply pressure to force Moscow to accept that their war must end.”
