Trump Pushes Peace with Putin and Law Enforcement Action in D.C.

President Donald Trump ended his 30th week in office with major international and domestic moves. On Friday, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. The summit aimed to find a solution to the war in Ukraine.

Although no peace deal was reached, Trump called the meeting a success. He revealed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would visit Washington on Monday. Trump emphasized the need for a full peace agreement not just a ceasefire. He explained that many ceasefires eventually fail. If the upcoming talks with Zelenskyy go well, a three-way summit may follow.

Trump described the meeting with Putin as productive. He said, “It was a very warm meeting. I believe we’re close to a deal, but Ukraine must also agree.” At home, Trump also took bold action. On Monday, he announced plans to activate 800 National Guard troops. He said they would support law enforcement in Washington, D.C.

In a press conference, Trump stated, “I’m deploying the National Guard to restore law, order, and safety in Washington.” This move came after a violent incident involving a former government staffer. Trump had already increased the federal presence in D.C. days earlier.

However, local officials pushed back. On Friday, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed a legal challenge. He argued that the federal government overstepped its emergency authority. Schwalb posted on X, “This is the gravest threat to Home Rule D.C. has ever faced. We will fight to stop it.”

Meanwhile, the White House took further action to shape national identity. On Tuesday, it announced a full review of Smithsonian museums. The goal is to prepare for America’s 250th birthday in 2026. Trump said, “We want our museums to show our real history—not a woke or racist version.”

Therefore, the review will examine exhibits, educational materials, and social media content. Officials said the goal is preserving American values through accurate historical representation. Trump added, “Museums must reflect both the good and the bad in our story honestly and fairly.”

According to a White House letter, the initiative also aims to eliminate partisan content. The administration wants museums to align with “American ideals” and rebuild public trust. The Smithsonian confirmed it will cooperate with the White House, Congress, and its Board of Regents. It stated its commitment to scholarly excellence and factual accuracy.

As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, Trump’s focus on preserving American values shapes policy both abroad and at home. For Trump, preserving American values remains a central theme—whether in diplomacy, public safety, or cultural heritage.
