President Donald Trump announced on social media Sunday that Dan Bongino, a conservative commentator and former law enforcement officer, will serve as the FBI’s deputy director.
Bongino will work alongside Kash Patel, who was recently confirmed by the Senate as the agency’s director. According to Trump, Patel selected Bongino for the position, which does not require Senate approval.
“This is great news for law enforcement and the American justice system!” Trump wrote, describing Bongino as someone with deep patriotism and dedication to the country.
Bongino previously served as a New York City police officer and a U.S. Secret Service agent. In recent years, he has been recognized for his work as a radio host and podcaster.
Trump also noted that Bongino is willing to step away from his program to take on the new role. His show was recently ranked 56th among U.S. podcasts, according to streaming platform rankings.
